Regency hospital plans advanced treatment - In2EastAfrica - East ...

The Dar es Salaam-based Regency Medical Centre has enhanced some programmes aimed at providing quality medical services locally, thus enabling patients to receive treatment in Tanzania, without necessarily travelling to India.

That is why an international health facility named HeathCare Global Enterprises Ltd (HCG) has entered into a partnership with Regency Medical Centre (RMC) and Lions Club of Dar es Salaam in a strategic drive aimed at ensuring that cancer patients in Tanzania have access to quality and advanced treatment.

The move intends to supplement government strategies geared at improving service delivery to cancer patients, a major killer disease in the country. The three partners HCG, RMC and Lions Club, are now taking initiatives to bring into the country highly qualified specialists from India to provide advanced cancer treatment to patients at affordable cost.

According to Dr Papaiah Sridhar, a renowned cancer specialist with HCG, the provision of cancer services locally aimed at reducing costs associated with taking patients to India for treatment. ?Besides, we (HCG) want Tanzanians to access advanced technologies for cancer treatment from India,? said Dr. Sridhar, who is in the country to follow up progress of cancer patients he had treated in India and provide services to new patients.

For years cancer treatment has been a most challenging assignment in Tanzania, but with current initiatives by the three private health providers, things may improve rapidly. ?In India, HCG is recognised as the leader in oncology, the expertise and technology we have decided to bring to cancer patients in Tanzania. We are bringing it to other specialities with later technological advancements and maintaining optimum quality of life for the patients? says Dr Madhvan.

This new technology means that cancer patients in Tanzania will start getting quality medical treatment available to all segments of the society by adopting global innovations. With better medical outcomes, patients treated will definitely benefit a lot. Dr Dipak Dave who is Orthopaedic Surgion working at HCG, and also in the team that will be travelling to Dar es Salaam often to treat patients in Tanzania says that with sedentary lifestyle, the incidence of osteoporosis that is on the rise worldwide will be treated.

?Post menopausal women are among the high risk group that and they should undergo regular check ups and increase their calcium intake. New high technology surgical techniques have revolutionized joint replacement procedures, which gives the patient full flexibility including sitting in cross leg position and squatting? he adds.

According to him, the treatment has helped patients their full range of activities, including advancement in endoscopic spine surgeries which has given a new lease of life for patients diagnosed with spine problems, with quick recovery, lesser side effects and better quality of life.

Speaking at the event, Prafulla Dattai, a former cancer patient who got cured at HCG through the treatmentdrive managed by the three partners, was at a loss to express his feelings and happiness. ?I have nothing to say, but thank God!..I thank Dr. Kanabar?I thank specialists and Dr. Sridhar for nice and excellent treatment. You gave me the right treatment, and now I am cured completely? I am very okay.
